Syeda has one of those open-hearted smiles that can light up a room. We work extra hard to make sure she never loses it.
But Syeda wasn’t always this cheerful. Her sorrows started early in life when she lost her father at the age of 6, during the 2008 earthquake in Kashmir. When her mother remarried, Syeda was sent away to an orphan home.
Today Syeda Tauseefa Kazmi is 14 years-old. She’s found a new family among her friends and teachers at Ashiyana Orphan Home in Muzaffarabad. Run by Al Mustafa Welfare Trust (AMWT) the Home provides care and security orphan girls without protection. Through our Orphan Sponsorship Programme, we’re able to ensure these children want for nothing.
Syeda receives regular medical care, food, clothing. She’s started memorising the holy Quran, and is pursuing her primary school education simultaneously. When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, Syeda smile broadens. She wants to be an Islamic Studies teacher, she says, just like her own teachers at Ashiyana.
