A Cataract took away his Independence, But Help Brought It Back
Muhammad Ahmed, an elderly Kallar Syedan, Pakistan resident, lived in a world slowly sinking into darkness. He could not see the beauty of the world, the faces of loved ones.
His world was blurred, which could soon lead him to permanent blindness. Once a self-reliant man, he was left dependent upon others. A cataract took away his independence.
Like many people from the underprivileged class, Ahmed did not have access to basic medical care. The cost of cataract surgery was far beyond what he could afford. He lived silently, depending on others, slowly dealing with the loss of something most of us take for granted: the gift of vision.
Ahmed underwent a safe and successful cataract surgery. The results were miraculous within a short time. Post-surgery, doctors began to remove his eye patch.
He was overwhelmed with mixed emotions, such as fear, disbelief, relief, and excitement. The first thing Ahmed noticed was the faces around him—clear, bright, and kind faces. His satisfaction, his smiling face, was enough to boost the energy of our team of doctors and volunteers; it reminded them why they do what they do.
