Qurbani Rewards in the Quran and Hadith

Every year during Eid al-Adha, Muslims all over the world give Qurbani. Many give it out of duty. But do you know just how great the rewards of Qurbani in Islam truly are?

Allah (SWT) does not just ask for your sacrifice. He promises incredible rewards in return. These rewards are mentioned clearly in the Quran and the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (SWT).

Why Does Qurbani Carry Such Great Reward?

Qurbani means sacrifice. Every year on Eid al-Adha (the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah), Muslims sacrifice a goat, sheep, cow, or camel for the sake of Allah.

This act goes back to the time of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who showed his love for Allah by being willing to sacrifice his own son, Ismail (AS). At the last moment, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram, and the act of Qurbani was born.

The word ‘Qurbani’ itself comes from the Arabic word qurb (قُرب) which means nearness. Every time you give Qurbani, you are drawing closer to Allah (SWT). And when you draw close to Allah, He draws close to you.

Qurbani in the Quran: What Does Allah (SWT) Say?

1. Allah Wants Your Taqwa, Not the Meat

This is the most important verse you need to know about Qurbani. Allah (SWT) says clearly in Surah Al-Hajj:

Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood. But what reaches Him is the piety (taqwa) from you.

Quran 22:37

Allah does not need the animal. He does not need the meat or the blood. What He wants is your sincerity, your taqwa (God-consciousness), when you give.

This means even the most affordable Qurbani, given with a clean and sincere heart, carries enormous weight with Allah. The reward is based on your intention, not the size of the animal.

2. Qurbani Is an Act of Gratitude to Allah

In Surah Al-Kausar, the shortest chapter of the Quran, Allah gives a direct command:

So Pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]

Quran 108:2

Prayer and sacrifice are paired together. Qurbani is not just a ritual — it is a way of saying “Thank You” to Allah for every blessing in your life. And Allah responds to gratitude with more:

If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favour.

Quran 14:7

Your Qurbani is an act of gratitude. And gratitude always brings increase from Allah.

Qurbani Rewards in the Hadith:

Hadith 1: A Reward for Every Single Hair

This is the Hadith that Muslims love most about Qurbani. A companion once asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about Qurbani. Here is what the Prophet said:

It is the sunnah of your father Ibrahim (AS). For every hair of Qurbani, you receive a reward from Allah (SWT).

Tirmidhi, Hadith 1493

A single sheep or goat has thousands upon thousands of hairs. A cow has even more. And Allah promises a separate reward for every single one.

The companion then asked about animals with wool. The Prophet (PBUH) replied: a reward for every fibre of the wool, too. No other act of worship comes with this level of guaranteed, multiplied reward. This is one of the most unique promises in the entire Sunnah.

Hadith 2: The Most Beloved Act on the Day of Eid

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) explained to us which act Allah loves most on Eid al-Adha:

There is no deed that is dearer to Allah (SWT) during the days of Qurbani than the flowing of blood. The animal will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, its hair and its hooves. The blood reaches the acceptance of Allah (SWT) before it even falls upon the ground. So let your hearts be at ease when you sacrifice.

Tirmidhi & Ibn Majah

This Hadith contains three powerful promises.

• Qurbani is the most beloved act to Allah on the days of Eid al-Adha, more beloved than any other good deed you can do.
• Your Qurbani animal will return to you on the Day of Judgement, fully intact with its horns, hair and hooves, as a witness to your worship.
• Allah accepts your Qurbani before the blood even hits the ground. It is accepted the moment you sacrifice.

And then the Prophet (PBUH) ends with the most comforting words: “Let your hearts be at ease.” Your Qurbani is already received by Allah. Do not doubt it.

5 Key Rewards of Qurbani

Reward 1: A Reward for Every Hair

Allah promises a separate reward for every hair and every fibre of wool on the Qurbani animal. This is a number beyond counting.

Reward 2: Your Sacrifice Is Accepted Immediately

The blood of your Qurbani reaches the acceptance of Allah before it even touches the ground. It is one of the fastest-accepted acts of worship in Islam.

Reward 3: Your Animal Returns on the Day of Judgement

Your Qurbani animal will be brought back to you on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, hair and hooves intact. It will be a sign of your worship.

Reward 4: Forgiveness of Sins

Scholars across all four madhabs agree that giving Qurbani with sincerity is a means of seeking forgiveness and expiation. Your sacrifice is a direct act of devotion that brings Allah’s mercy.

Reward 5: You Follow the Sunnah of Two Prophets

When you give Qurbani, you follow the Sunnah of both Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Muhammad  (PBUH). The reward for reviving a Sunnah is equal to the reward of everyone who acts upon it until the Day of Judgement.

The Prophet (PBUH)  Never Missed a Single Qurbani

One of the strongest signs of Qurbani’s importance is the Prophet’s own practice:

"The Prophet of Allah   stayed in Madinah for ten years and every year he sacrificed an animal."

Tirmidhi

For ten years in a row, the Prophet (PBUH) performed Qurbani every single Eid. This consistency says everything. He also gave an extra Qurbani on behalf of every Muslim in his Ummah who could not afford one. This is what we call the Prophetic Qurbani, and it is a Sunnah you can revive today.

Earn These Rewards with Al Mustafa Welfare Trust

When you give Qurbani through Al Mustafa Welfare Trust, the sacrifice is performed on your behalf by trusted teams in 21 countries, in full accordance with Islamic guidelines.

Last Eid al-Adha, your generosity reached over 3.1 million people across the world. For many of these families, the Qurbani meat they received was the only fresh meat they ate all year.

Every hair of every animal sacrificed on your behalf earned you a reward from Allah (SWT). Every family that ate from your Qurbani will carry your deed in the scales on the Day of Judgement.

Eid al-Adha is expected on 27 May 2026.
