One of the key things Muslims are obligated to do during the Holy month of Ramadan is to donate fitrana on or before the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr. Fitrana is a small sum per person which is given prior to Eid salah to enable those in need to celebrate the completion of the auspicious month along with joining in the festivities of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Fitrana, also known as Zakat-ul-Fitr, is the sum of £4 per person and is compulsory for all Muslims regardless of age or status.
Those who do not have over approximately 2kg of staple food in excess of their needs are the only individuals exempt from paying fitrana.
Fitrana can be paid during the Holy month of Ramadan as long as payment is made prior to the congregational prayers on the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr. Any payment submitted after Eid salah is invalid.
