Elderly People Sponsorships

As life expectancy increases in developing countries so too does the number of elderly people living in developing countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 200 million of the 355 million people older than 65 years are in the developing world. Elderly people in developing countries have become especially vulnerable because of the rapid social changes occurring In many of these countries. Migration, urbanisation, changes in value systems and aspirations, changes in the role of women and the breakdown of the family system have eroded traditional family support system.

 

Therefore, elderly people suddenly find themselves poor, vulnerable, neglected and without power or influence. Moreover, almost all developing countries do not provide even a basic social security safety net to cover the simplest of needs such as food and accommodation.

Let's Help the elders of our society

With the harsh reality and lack of support for these elderly people, Al-Mustafa has taken this issue as a matter of urgency and started its Elderly Sponsorship Programme in 2001. Al-Mustafa is sponsoring more then 30 elderly people in different developing countries.

By sponsoring an elderly person you will not only bring back dignity to the elders of our society but you will restore hope especially at the latter stages of their lives where they should be enjoying whatever short time they have left surrounded with peace and happiness. With our Elderly Sponsorship Scheme, we will ensure that our donor receives full feed back on the status and progress of the elderly sponsored person on a regular basis and ensure that your donation is helping towards providing clothes, food and shelter as well as medical needs. We will also assign a local aid worker who will maintain regular contact with the elderly person.

How to help

To sponsor an elderly person costs just £15 per month and this donation will help improve an elderly person's life. It helps them enjoy the latter stages of their life with reasonable access to the basic facilities including health, food, accommodation maintenance, travelling, pocket money and participation in social activities.
