Turkey Earthquake Appeal
Earthquake in Turkey has killed over 461 people and injured 1140. The latest disaster struck on 23 Oct 2011 at 13:41 (10:41 GMT) at a depth of 20km (12 miles), with its epicentre 16km north-east of the city of Van. There are more than 2,000 buildings destroyed, with the town of Ercis the worst hit. The aid agencies warned of "hundreds, possibly 1000" of people loss their lives who are still trapped under rubble. However, there is no official count of the number of people missing.

What is Needed at the Moment?
There is an urgent need for temporary accommodation, cooked food and clean drinking water. Though Turkey is among well developed and wealthy countries with trained disaster management teams in place. However, it has decided to accept the assistance from the foreign countries as much possible to meet the urgent needs of the earthquake victims. The reason is that Turkey is short of some items, like prefabricated housing, vital for areas of eastern Turkey where tens of thousands have either lost their homes or cannot risk going back to damaged houses.
