Ramadan Iftaar & Suhoor Gaza 2014

Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust® is organizing daily Grand Iftar and Suhoor in Bait-ul-Muqadas (Al-Aqsa Mosque) this Ramadan to ensure that vulnerable communities that are fasting in this holy month can open their fast with a large Iftaari and can close their fast with sufficient food.

  • Food insecurity in Palestine is on the rise and driven primarily by poverty linked to the occupation of the West Bank and the blockade of the Gaza Strip rather than due to the lack of food, which makes sufficient, nutritious food out of reach for many. High food prices and low wages mean that 1.6 million Palestinians don’t know from where their next meal is coming from.

Some 34 percent of households in the Palestinian territories were food insecure last year, up from 27 percent in the previous year.

With the Karni commercial crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip still closed, a senior official of the main United Nations agency helping Palestinian refugees warned that the clock is ticking toward a dangerous lack of basic food.

The director of Gaza Operations for the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), John Ging Director, recently issued the following warning: “If Karni remains closed, we are, once again, counting down to a food crisis on which 765,000 refugees depend for flour, oil, sugar and other basic items“.

Mr Ging further expanded: “From a humanitarian perspective the outlook here in Gaza is bleak at the moment“.

  • Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust® is asking all Muslims around the world not to turn a blind eye to the people of Palestine and help provide Iftaar & Suhoor for the whole month of Ramadan 2014 by making a donation below.

We are looking for big donors who are ready, willing and able to donate £1000 to feed 250 people or £400 to feed 100 people.

This is the least we can do on a short term basis to help alleviate the current food crisis for some of the people in Palestine; however we want to expand on providing more food aid after the month of fasting ends as the situation is extremely dire especially for the people of Gaza.
